Amazon Glue is a fully managed, extract, transform, and load (ETL) service. It simplifies the process of preparing and loading data for analysis by making it easy for user to discover, catalog, transform, and move data between various data stores.

Glue data catalog

The Glue data catalog is a central metadata repository that is part of Amazon Glue. It stores structural and operational metadata for all your data assets. For a given dataset, you can store its table definition, physical location, add business relevant attributes, as well as track how this data changed over time.

How does Glue work

With Amazon Glue, you can extract data from Amazon S3 and Amazon RDS to the Glue service, then you can write script to perform the data transform, the data can later be analysed using other Amazon services such as the Redshift database.
